TOTAL LIPEDEMA CARE

I branded the disease lipedema. Lipedema is a disease in your fat cells that causes an irregular fat growth pattern on the body, which causes pain in the legs and arms. Over 11% of women have lipedema and are often laughed at by their doctors and told to lose weight. Lipedema Fat cannot be lost with diet or exercise and it progressively gets worse with age. There are four stages to lipedema and five body types to the disease. There is no cure, but only treatment is liposuction.

Total Lipedema Care is the first medical group to brand the disease in the United States. I was brought in from the beginning to connect with woman around the country and be the creative director, content creator, designer, and writer for TLC. Usually weight related diseases like obesity are associated with darkness and depression. My goal was to uplift and bring light to bad fat.

I’ve CD’d and shot photo and video for TLC’s ad campaigns.

Slogan: Keep moving with lipedema.

CD’d by Mel. People often associate lipedema with being fat or obese, but that is untrue. There are several body types to lipedema, including skinny. For the first time, women are coming out of their shells and showing the world their lipedema legs with pride because they’ve learned they aren’t fat and having large painful legs is not their fault.

Logo design by Mel. We wanted to create an iconic logo that felt safe and beautiful to women. The ultimate goal for our ads is to raise awareness about the disease and to eventually create lipedema centers around the country along with compression garment merchandise. This logo represents lipedema legs and that they should be loved and to keep moving. It’s both legs, a heart, and a butterfly - yet simple enough to be unforgettable.
